A group of 18 UK cardiologists, approved by the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society for echocardiographic breed screening, has met at the University of Bristol to discuss and evaluate a possible new screening scheme to detect mitral valve disease in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Although the scheme has not yet been finalised, it is in the process of discussion with the Kennel Club and Cavalier breed clubs. Based on the Danish scheme, it aims to provide a more robust and fair system than the previous scheme, which was based on auscultation only.
More information will follow in May / June this year, so keep your eyes on the VCS website and the press.
